Surely if you have a number of instruments showing various engine parameters in front of you, you ought to know what various combinations of readings mean. What's the point of having the instruments if you don't? It seems the copilot had only a bit of a clue. The pilot in command knew nothing. So they crashed. Surely, if you are confronted with something you don't understand, then that is the point where you need to give yourself time to come to an understanding - in this case abort the takeoff, surely?? According to Wikipedia, the pilot Wheaton had previously been suspended for about 4.5 months for multiple instances of unsafe flying. Sounds like he should have been terminated.
