And the situation with special educational needs funding is an utter disgrace

We know this, we pay National Insurance on our wages to cover ourselves for unemployment, but our government is screwing us over.

They kind of rely on the working class not having a working brain. Anyone with any sense can figure that austerity is the result of the taxpayer bailing out banks after they stupidly invested in the subprime sector. Time to lay the blame at the right door for a change.

But has he thought what their pay looks like in comparison with the rent that the worker is paying

I completely agree. No one actually knows how many people have actually been infected or when or if this results in immunity. The only numbers that they have to go on are the numbers of people with severe symptoms that are admitted to hospital and the numbers of deaths. Many, many people will just have a cough that is not bad enough to bother their doctor or maybe asymptomatic, that does not mean that these people are not passing the virus on to others, in fact, they may be worse spreaders precisely because they are unaware that they are infected.

Sorry to hear this, that is terrible.

Just seen the case of Emily Lydon. She is 19 and was born with BSE. She cannot walk or talk, is doubly incontinent and is fed through a hole in her stomach. She has been awarded £58 per week in Universal Credit, a loss of £520 per week for an extremely disabled individual and her carer.

Still does not seem to be working though as people are taking out loans with massive interest repayments attached. Many people on minimum wage and below have very little in the way of savings and have been paid wages on a weekly basis, so they are ill prepared should their job evaporate.

Not when travel costs and/or care costs outweigh your income. My son is disabled and when asked to investigate work the adviser gulped when I demonstrated that care would cost at least £10.30 per hour and it would be dependent upon being able to find someone who could meet my son's needs.

They should be dumped in some grotty, damp bedsit with a shared bathroom and a card electricity meter, in some really rundown area for a month. During that time they should only be able to live off UC and they should have a work coach continuously haranguing them, just like the real unemployed.

@sammyisherenow It is the poor that are paying for the banks mistakes from a decade ago.

Deadly COVID variant?

@irondad-np7hz I know it does not work. Three of my neighbours have family members living in garages, one of those neighbours has epilepsy and has been forced out to work, her landlady wants her out so she can sell the house, she cannot drive so if she has to move out of the area, she will lose her job. That's just due to the changes in housing benefit. As for sanctions, we had a guy living in the church porch and begging as a result. The poor guy used to spend all day in the library and used to have to pay to use the leisure centre to get a shower in the communal showers there. I gave him the details of Emmaus and thankfully he now has a roof over his head.

Sad that these industries have declined.

You'd have thought so.

On benefits themselves?

I am so sick of seeing people without masks that I now wear a FFP3 respirator mask.

Sure they are out protesting for a valid reason, it is just the wrong time, just as it is absolutely the wrong time to go to the beach with thousands of other people. The difference is that they have more reason to do what they are doing then the brainless day-trippers. We would all like to go for a nice day out, but at the moment a day out consists of shopping for essentials and maybe a picnic in your car, or time in your garden. The more that people congregate regardless of the cause, the more that this thing will spread, it has been going on for long enough without anyone making it any worse.
1
The problem is that we do not know how long immunity lasts and may be somewhat transient.
1
@0muskett0 Exactly, around 3 weeks between catching the virus and dying with it

Did Trump grease or rub soap on the steps?

Exactly, the people at the top do not follow the science and they do not lead by example.

TBH, I don't think that he will survive much past his 100th birthday, I think that he will hang on tenaciously until then, but will just fade away afterwards. He has had a long life and there is only so much that medicine can do.

I can understand your concern, but as a class of drugs there will be a standard technique of producing them that will have been used on many other vaccines.

Hancock's little red room looks like it could be a toilet from its dimensions

Half the folk are not complying.

@kevinflidge6623 Because there has been a massive drive to get people to take up the 'flu shot. In my town the whole town was blocked up for hours as cars queued all through the main street. Two of my neighbours who NEVER take up the offer of the 'flu shot were there. The people that were most susceptible to 'flu would be the people most susceptible to coronavirus, so many that did not have the flu shot would be more likely to have been killed off or be ill with corona when 'flu would be likely to do its rounds. I have the 'flu shot every year and I have never seen chaos of the type that there was this year. Yep, logic is a beautiful thing.
