If you want s button-down, planned and controlled existance, which apart from being boring, means subjecting yourself to an "authority" that "knows better", then by all means you can even now settle, live and work in an EU country. The only such authority with any kind of benevolence is Divine, and certainly NOT human. History is replete with examples.

The EU came into existence in 1993. We managed prior to that and in fact the uk economy thrived through the eighties and into the 90's. The flip side of your assertion is the awful unemployment levels in the Mediterranean. In Italy, Portugal, Greece ... Absolutely suffering, labouring under the the weight of the EU. I think France is going to shock planet earth and elect Le Pen. And she will, without doubt, offer France an in/out referendum, and I'll give you one guess what the outcome of that will be. Seriously. Don't pin your hopes on the failing EU.

The EU will work hell for leather now to stitch up the remaining eu members lest someone else makes a break for it. Happily, le pen and the FN now have 40% of the intended vote and it looks like all the media and political propaganda is not working any more. You can't steal a landslide, so I predict a le pen Presidency, followed by an in out EU referendum, this time with a government in favour. The EU is finished.
