Gordon brown took over as pm from Tony Blair and a signed the Lisbon treaty. He never won an election while he was prime minister. In fact, he lost. The prime minister advises HM by virtue of the office. Jeremy Corbyn is leader of the parliamentary Labour Party. Though they don't want him as leader. It's under my mattress. I bring it out occasionally when remoaners claim we didn't know we were leaving the customs union and single market.   39. First of all, the second meaningful vote was allowed by the speaker because of extra legally binding documents from the EU and a unilateral declaration by the government. There hasn't and won't be a third, at this rate. Secondly it is the ROLE of parliament to VOTE on Motions and bills on a REGULAR BASIS. THAT is actually HOW they function. Referenda are an entirely different matter. They take 6 months to organise and a lot of effort and expense to run. And though it may escape your attention, we recently had a referendum on the issue of our membership of the EU and it was FIRMLY and CLEARLY settled that our verdict was to LEAVE the EU. There won't be a second referendum. The issue of our membership is SETTLED.
