The UK buys twice as much from the EU as it sells to the EU. We are running an annual £82bn deficit with the eu and paying upwards of £10bn annually for the privilege. Any business or economy has supply side and export side. The UK. Minimise costs Maximise profits. The UK can source from markets outside the EU. That has some remarkable benefits. . Minimise costs to UK . Introduce competition into the protectionist euro zone. . Stimulate those African economies you refer to, which could put on a stunning growth spurt as a result. It's not just Africa we are eyeing to open market doors. We shut down our relations with the commonwealth in 1993. There are vast opportunities for a uk positioned outside the tariff walls and regulatory maelstrom that is the EU. You're only looking from one angle because it fits your remoaner narrative.

@MAF F they'll regret that. QE is ending and German economy is staring down the barrel of recession. The EU wants to introduce . Tax harmonisation . Financial union . EU foreign policy with no veto . Financial transaction tax that will frighten off a lot of finance companies and make borrowing for business difficult and more expensive in Europe. UK will liberalise. It's our instinct. The EU wants to force all members to adopt the euro, and that's exactly what it will do. Regardless of promises, it would have insisted on uk adopting euro.

@John Brighton we could do much better if we could make our own, bespoke trade arrangements. But it's not just about selling cars. Our costs can come down if we lower our outward facing tariffs in areas that open up those markets. The EU is protectionist.
