  12. First of all, the second meaningful vote was allowed by the speaker because of extra legally binding documents from the EU and a unilateral declaration by the government. There hasn't and won't be a third, at this rate. Secondly it is the ROLE of parliament to VOTE on Motions and bills on a REGULAR BASIS. THAT is actually HOW they function. Referenda are an entirely different matter. They take 6 months to organise and a lot of effort and expense to run. And though it may escape your attention, we recently had a referendum on the issue of our membership of the EU and it was FIRMLY and CLEARLY settled that our verdict was to LEAVE the EU. There won't be a second referendum. The issue of our membership is SETTLED.

  18.  @johnstroud3448  that's besides the point. She was referring of course MPs votes in the commons. The cabinet would be expected to support the government policy. Whether or not they did is another matter. But my point is that cabinet may be a subset of the parliament, but it is not the same thing as the parliament. If she had meant the cabinet, she surely would have said that. Unless she's being obtuse.
