The UK never agreed at any time to the eu backstop. The EU insisted on having it as an option in the terms of negotiations and the UK said, by all means include it if you insist... No uk prime minister will ever agree to partitioning the UK.

Both Cameron and Tusk made it absolutely clear that leaving the eu meant leaving the SM and CU throughout the campaign. A Member State which decides to withdraw shall notify the European Council of its intention. In the light of the guidelines provided by the European Council, the Union shall negotiate and conclude an agreement with that State, setting out the arrangements for its withdrawal, taking account of the framework for its future relationship with the Union. That agreement shall be negotiated in accordance with Article 218(3) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. It shall be concluded on behalf of the Union by the Council, acting by a qualified majority, after obtaining the consent of the European Parliament. 3. The Treaties shall cease to apply to the State in question from the date of entry into force of the withdrawal agreement or, failing that, two years after the notification referred to in paragraph 2, unless the European Council, in agreement with the Member State concerned, unanimously decides to extend this period. That is what leaving means. It means the UK is no longer participating in eu treaties. The single market and customs union are constructed by the EU treaties. To become a member of CU and SM means rejoining. The EFTA agreement was not on the ballot either, before you try that trick.

He can't argue against what article 50 says, so he pulls a random "statistic" out of his hat, that 99.99% of voters didn't know that. That's just patent nonsense and he knows it. So now he appears to have switched to this wild idea about £100bn And he's attacking me for being a remoaner. I'm the opposite. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool leave voter. I can't get sense out of him. @kaba_me lol 😂 They have no recourse. The Parliament cannot compel the executive to go back to negotiation. Neither can it amend or withdraw the article 50 notification. 😏 It can't amend the eu withdrawal bill either.... So it's either deal or WTO exit.... 😁

@Team-fabulous well that may indeed be the case.... But. My understanding was that the GFI depended on provable destruction of arms... And I'm pretty sure they meant it. I'm not naive. But i believe it was obvious that a peaceful approach was more desirable and productive. .... I'm not unaware of your point...
