  1. I don't know about the rest of Europe, but in the UK the vast majority drive manual cars. Automatics are pretty rare. You can choose to do your lessons/test in an automatic, which obviously doesn't cover you for manuals.

  2. There's some terrible drivers in Europe too. But on the whole they're better than Americans due to the lessons/training and more thorough tests theory/practical. You don't just roll up to a carpark in your mum's car, and 15 minutes later have a driving licence. And don't get me started on the motorcycle test, I did mine two years ago and it's a long and expensive process. My cousin lives out in Florida, and I agree about their driving. Some of the stories he tells me lol. Also they have no MOT equivalent, so a lot of the cars are falling apart lol.
