As someone who has been arrested, let me tell you that NOTHING prepares you for the shock of that happening and you feel like that if you just tell the truth and are believed, then that will be the end of it! For me, it was just the start of my nightmare, but I ONLY thought of asking for an attorney in Hindsight.. On the day of the arrest I had to instantly deal with much more pressing issues, like trying to get my one phone call and hoping that someone answers , etc etc etc.. I was never ever even read my rights!! Everyone that makes this judgement should just be grateful that they have never been arrested, and then leave it at that. You just DON'T KNOW HOW you'll react when it happens!! I was a widow with no one to help me or give me advice , etc, AND the County that I was in even had my wrong social security incorrect on my paperwork and there were other problems. So, I hope that this answers your question somewhat.
