  1. I don't know if any executions can really be "justified": hence my objection to the title of this series. However, this was surely a horrible historical period, which brought out the worst in many. (The 22-year-old female guard, btw, must have been what we now call a psychopath. They flourish in totalitarian societies.) I really do hope that Nazis and fascists never again gain power in any country. The same goes for any authoritarian regime. 🤞
