  1. It doesn't, is the short answer. Only when ranted by a lunatic like Adolf. Also: A lot of the "German" the actors try to parrot isn't High German. It's more like Plattdeutsch (Low German) or some other kind of German dialect. Also: das ist kein Hochdeutsch, sondern Plattdeutsch or irgendein Dialekt. Meine Mutter war Volksdeutsche, und sie sprach Hochdeutsch. Sie nannte es "Bühnensprache". So that would be the speech of the stage, English equivalent Received Pronunciation. High German actually sounds quite melodious. It's quite easy to sing opera in, too. Also: I personally think that German, when intoned/whispered/chanted in the right manner, is a magical language, with a mystic air. I'd definitely choose it for spells over Latin any day! 🙂
