  1. Um, actually: I learned about slavery of white Scots in 18th century Scotland (they put iron collars on them, if they tried to run away, apparently. Also, a father could sell his son into slavery) from a 1995 novel entitled A Place Called Freedom, by the bestselling author Ken Follett. Most of his novels are well-written, well-researched (as far as I can tell) and well worth a read!
