@Gaff. OK, I'll have a Google. (But I do think that was a terrible shame, and indeed a great historical oversight. Legislators might think they have a reason for something at the time, but it continues causing problems down the centuries. Kind of like a hostage to fortune. I hardly think Lincoln would have approved, had he lived long enough.)

@benjaminhenderson5025 But it would f*ck up that particular "administration": just as the Attica Uprising in 1971 ffed up THAT particular prison administration (and did no favours to Governor Rockefeller) and did achieve improvements in prison conditions, I believe.

@jeremysmith4620 Yes. The working class (and underclass) in your country, as in so many others, is greatly persecuted. BUT: IF a prison administration is determined to exploit you, AND at the risk of your own life, so maybe kill you... isn't it worth being transferred to another prison, even into maximum security? And HOW many inmates can they do that to, ANYWAY? I think that history shows that whenever there have been determined prison revolts, such as Attica, these have changed prison conditions for the better.
