  2. Tell you what. If any significant number of Britons wanted a republic, then there would have to be a national referendum: much as there was over Brexit, or (for Scotland) Scottish independence. But if this referendum were to be held at any time in the near-ish future, say in the next five, or even ten, years: my prediction is that the republican side would not succeed: the majority of the British population would not support it. Period. (In fact the result wouldn't even be close.) And even if they did, there would then be the question of what to replace it with? Royalty as Head of State does fulfil a function. And just what IS a "meritocracy", anyway?😏 And a Duchy is the domain of a Duke. I happen to live in the Duchy of Cornwall.. What's wrong with polo? It's just a game! It comes from India. As for the USA... Don't get me started! With the amount of HOMELESS PEOPLE you have EVERYWHERE, including the DISABLED.. It's disgusting. I've watched quite a few YouTube videos which say that the US is the society with the greatest income inequality in the world. Obviously that's what being a capitalist "meritocracy" gets you. Oh: and I know that US Presidents and ex-Presidents get state funerals too..
