Well yes, of course!! Where are the Navy's HYDROPHONES (underwater microphones) though? I agree with Roger Lane-Nott that the people inside should be tapping recognisable rhythms like SOS. But I don't think that frantically banging on the hull for hours without a break would do them any good. It would just use up their oxygen.

@fluxington3530 No: you need at least one, because they float to the surface and can pinpoint your last position via radio signal. Then you need another one or two as backup, in case something happens to the first one. This was a criminally under-protected expedition: and I hope the person responsible for these "tours" gets prosecuted l!

@JohnGlover-e5c So they're doing it with buoys? But why don't the vessels in the area drop hydrophones over the side?? The US Navy has plenty of experience using those!

Why don't the search ships in the area simply drop hydrophones (mikes on cords) over the side?? That's a technology that has existed for many decades. THEN you can pinpoint the source of the sound. I don't know how they can even detect underwater sounds from an AIRCRAFT anyway. If they haven't deployed hydrophones, this lot are idiots! 😏
