The prices of some basic things (eg, cooking oils) started to rise from about 2007 because of price rises on international commodity markets. Nothing to do with the UK. Same with the more recent hyperinflation. It all had international causes, nothing to do with any poxy wage "rises" (aka wage cuts!)

  38. @yourma2000  The government could subsidise prices of essentials, as they do/did in many countries.. Anyway, supermarkets do this to farmers ALL THE TIME, when it comes to pushing down prices. They use certain basic items, such as milk, as "loss leaders" to tempt in customers, so that not even the supermarket makes a profit on the item. What are the farmers supposed to do? 😏
