That's a partition the historians made and how countries themselves acted (except the Eastern European states who were forced to join the Warsaw pact and the states that got their head of states overthrown). Except for Europe and a few other countries like Korea, the U.S and Russia didn't make much arrangements. They just constantly tried to overthrow regimes, install proxies and so on... Something totally else. This here is 2 countries coming together and partition the WHOLE earth so they won't fight against eachother.
