This is a Christian country and a Christian culture. Britain had hundreds of years of religious wars, between Christian factions. That is, until everyone had fought to a standstill, and one's religion became a private matter and it became taboo to argue over it. The introduction of Islam into British culture was bound to cause ructions and that is not acceptable. Forcing one's religion down other's unwilling throats is not compatible with British culture. It is not a multi-religion cultural society and the British value is to keep religion private and not to impose on other's religions. It is bad form.
