  1.  @svans6725  The East End of London took a battering in WW2 and it was still in a tumbledown state with lots of bombsites in the 50s and early 60s.There was a huge shanty-town in Poplar and all over London crumbling 3-4 storey houses were occupied with whole families squashed into single rooms, with one toilet for the whole house and a cooker on the landing as the only form of kitchen. By the 70s things had improved a bit, but it was never a level playing-field for the working class. The curse on England is the class system, a feudal monstrosity that has outlived any relevance it may ever have had.
