I’ve wanted to resubscribe to a service for ages, but every time I think about it I remember how easy it was to sign up online last time, and that I had to call the UK, in their business hours, to cancel!

Even rich countries like Australia and the US put more (nationally funded) focus onto sports they can win, while Europe having each individual country putting more focus onto a diverse array of sports just due to the variety of countries weights towards bronze. Especially when the other countries are hovering up the gold disproportionately by concentrating efforts on outstanding athletes.

⁠ @tiptapkey I think you’re mistakenly assuming having an inner monologue means that’s the only way you can think. It’s but one tool of many, and can be used simultaneously with others like visualization, emotion, calculation, prediction, recognition etc etc. some people don’t have one or more of these. But most people have them all simultaneously to differing extents. Different tools are better for different types of work. It’s also a billion times faster than talking, it’s literally dialogue at the speed of thought. Like if you have one, the frustration is you can think of a paragraph to say in the time your mouth can say a word.

@elijahfeuerstein4710 the inner monologue is in addition to, not a replacement of, other types of thought, for most people. Obviously some people are missing other types, but most people aren’t. It’s also way way way faster than anything you’ve heard, spoken or written. It’s at thought speed.

Yes, an inner monologue is but one tool of a large toolbox, to be used or not as required. Visualization, pattern matching, calculation, intuition, ‘muscle memory’, etc etc etc. heaps of other ways of thinking. Some people don’t have one or more, but most people have most to varying degrees. Some are more or less pronounced and some people find each perhaps improve or degrade with use or lack thereof. Obviously many people can work around one of these tools being missing, but I cannot imagine not having access to all of them. I imagine if you didn’t have one, describing it to you would be impossible. Like people imagine an inner monologue is slow, because they’re comparing it to speaking, reading or writing which all happen much much slower than an inner monologue that runs at the speed of thought, and simultaneously with other methods of thinking.
