The orbital changes mean we should be cooling, it's not so much being overlooked but that they're so slow that we're overpowering them.

The Woolly Mammoths didn't die out until the ice age ENDED. They weren't frozen, they lost their icy habitat / were hunted to extinction. They were still around ~10,000 years ago, the last ice age reached its PEAK ~20,000 years ago. The world never got cold enough to kill them. But anything sustainably sub zero will preserve one that dies of natural causes. Even humans lived during the last ice age, it was not that cold.

Mixing up cause and effect though. The methane is being released as glaciers retreat, last time it took thousands of years to do what we're doing in decades, and from a starting point with an ice age's worth of glaciers. We're starting from what should be a time of increasing glaciers, and managing to decrease them! Our impact is being reduced by the natural cycle and we still are overpowering it.

There's proof the poles have always been shifting, and indeed have completely flipped at least 183 times in the last 83 million years. Hardly a 'never before seen phenomena'. The 'event' that is occurring is that the core has liquid iron, and liquid, unsurprisingly, moves. Volcanic events have absolutely no correlation with solar events, the MOON has more influence on geologic events than the sun, and that's still very little. We're at a minimum of volcanic activity and a maximum rate of ice loss.

The warming planet, just like last time, causes methane to spike. The difference this time around is we're doing in decades what took thousands of years last time, and that started from a cooler base where there was more ice to melt, making it easier to cause. It's exactly what you'd expect to happen if humans are causing global warming. We're not just not cooling like we should be, we're actively warming.

@TeslasMoustache419 The climate record proves that isn't the case, and it also proves that the warming happening now is faster than any on record for a million years. We've already measured changes that are significant just in the last 100 years. Hell, there's satellite images just from the last 50 years that disprove any notion of stability.

@timothyrussell4445 They do though, it's being released as glaciers retreat, the same as it did last time. Melt glaciers, get more methane. So put too much CO2 and Methane into the atmosphere, get even more melting 'for free'. Last time it ended an ice age melting larger glaciers that haven't existed for thousands of years, this time (the last 100 years), we're not even in an ice age to end, so we can expect new record highs, and we're doing in decades what normally (despite the claims in this video) takes thousands of years, not centuries much less decades.

When glaciers retreat it releases methane. ICE Age termination is not CAUSED by the rapid release in methane, the end of the ICE age causes the methane release. We've effectively accelerated the heating even more. Basically, we're not entering an ice age, we're exiting the age where any ice exists. We should on a cycle be entering an ice age based on a normal cycle (the orbit means we should be getting cooler), but instead we're going the other direction. Basically the warming is causing more warming. And the worst thing this time, is that the increase is much much faster, any recorded previous increase in temperature, has not been nearly this fast, giving ecology more time to adapt. 'usually over decades' is full blown misinformation. Usually the changes are over thousands of years or tens of thousands of years. Not even as fast as centuries let alone decades. The last one took 14,000 years. There's only been 4 ice ages, and they've been hundreds of millions of years apart. Pretending it's normal for things to happen in decades is wishful delusion.

The solar cycles mean we should actually be in a cooling, not warming phase. There was a massive oil crisis in the 1970s, but still no halt. Like the weather, because it's colder one day than the next, doesn't mean there's a pattern that overrides the cycle of decades. You can prove anything if you look at data selectively, they've well and truly proven the climate is warming at a far faster rate than in any measurable history, and started at a period that coincided with industrialization and has only accelerated decade to decade. By 1986 it was substantially hotter than in 1970. Was every year hotter than the year before? No, it never ever has been, if every year was always hotter than the last the pace would be utterly unstoppable and we'd be all dead within years because for the increase to overtake year to year variation it'd have to be extreme. Years vary several tenths of a degree While Humans have only managed to do a degree in a hundred years.

@erikmoore7402 Are you suggesting because it's cold one day and hot the next summer and winter don't exist? Variances day to day are absolutely blown away by the larger scale changes. On average the only way to increase the amount of water in the atmosphere is to increase the temperature first.

@robertjohnston8690 The last time C02 was even 'near' 400ppm, much less above it, was millions of years before humans existed. So yes, if we make the planet uninhabitable for humans it'll be great for plants, when they're not on fire. The last time it was near 1400ppm was 200 million years ago. The last time it was above 1000ppm the last large Dinosaurs went extinct. It was last at 250ppm just before the last ice age ended. And the difference this time is that it's rising faster than it has ever risen or fallen, which means much less time for 'life' to adapt, even if species can't.

We should be entering an ice age, not leaving one. We absolutely have the ability to speed or slow our demise. We're seeing changes that usually happen in thousands of years happen in decades. Even 'deglaciation events' don't take decades, they take thousands of years.

@bite-sizedshorts9635 Except this time, the change is accelerating much much faster than any in history. Changes that took thousands of years have taken decades. The cycles the sun is currently going through should actually be COOLING the planet, but it's not, we've somehow stopped that cooling and managed to reverse it, even with it offsetting our impact. There's basically zero disagreement from any scientist that has studied this (save the few getting $$$ to tell you the stories their donors want you to hear), that the climate is warming at a faster rate than ever before, and humans are causing it.

@LionEagleOx Large amounts of the ice in the Antarctic is sea ice, which has had a record amount melt this year. Yes, ice on land melts slower, but it's also the ice that will cause sea level rises, so it really needs to be slower for our sake.
