@sroberts605 the ban on blood donations from people living in the UK during that period was lifted in Australia in mid 2022. Based on the many years since the last transmission. It was the long incubation time with no symptoms or test available that was the issue, but it's likely at this point anyone why contracted vCJD during that time has shown symptoms at this point and there’s more data as to the risk of contracting it via blood transfusion.

Ironically despite the ‘Australia doesn't accept our beef’ line, there is technically nothing stopping US raised and us slaughtered beef from being imported into Australia. Where there is an issue is it requires certification that the beef hasn't been mixed with beef from Mexico or Canada that may be contaminated with mad cow disease and all the US beef processing plants refuse to guarantee this. They want to have no tracing on the origin of the beef at all.
