  2.  dimapez  Agreed. RAF air ace Douglas Bader told his pilots, "Get as close as you possibly can before you open fire. When you think you're much too close, get even closer". Getting home safely is a testament to the P47's remarkable strength, and in this instance, sheer good luck that nothing vital was hit.
