  1. Unit cost. The US was producing VAST quantities of F111s and F4s for its own services, and selling them very cheaply to friendly nations. The TSR2 would only be manufactured in penny-packet numbers. The TSR2 was a superior product, but US aircraft were almost as good and a fraction of the price.
