@Argent Wolf Agreed. We needed to defeat the failed painter, just as you and I might one day need to defeat heart disease. We're now dying from a completely different disease, equivalent to cancer. Both enemies need to be defeated. Allowing the moustache-man to have won would still have killed us.

@oldfella3919 I bought a 1930s copy from a secondhand shop many years ago. Boooorrrring. The failed painter dictated the book to Rudolf Hess. He should've improved the story with a few car chases, bar fights and a love story, just to make it interesting. I mean, that's what Brian Griffin (author of "Faster than the Speed of Love") would've done.

@Argent Wolf FUN FACT, from Hugh Trevor Roper's biography of the failed painter. Goebbels allied himself with communist strikers in the 1920s. The failed painter gave Goebbels an ultimatum: Join us or become our enemy. I reckon Goebbels lived a bit longer because of his decision, but it didn't help his children.

@hewhoshallnotbenamed5168 Mussolini started as a hardline socialist. Both he and his father got into trouble with the police for their views. The term "fascist" doesn't prevent Mussolini and his followers from being socialists. The word iwas simply his party's name, and was derived from the ancient Roman term for an unbreakable tightly-bound bundle of sticks.

@thurin84 I love the depiction of the failed painter, as related by the ex-German soldier in "The Producers". The failed painter was a terrific dancer. Who'd have thought it?
