@jaystevens1965 I used to be a Tory activist (USED to be). I was in the conference centre when Baker announced the polytechnics would become universities (1989?). The objective was to get more technologically-qualified graduates, the kind of thing the tech colleges were good at but the trad-universities had failed at. Decades later, and my town has TWO universities. Nearly every student is from India, Nigeria or equivalent. I was speaking with an Indian student who'd graduated. He thought it was hilarious that scarcely any white Brits were graduating. Universities prefer foreign students, because there's more money to be made. From what I've seen, NONE of the graduates return home. ALL of them get a job in the UK, and use their "leave to remain" to import their extended families.
