  1. Maggie said after she was toppled that she wanted to do much, much more. But she said there were never enough of her allies in the House or in her cabinet to push things through. She always had to tread more lightly than she wanted. A few more Tebbits and his ilk would've achieved great things.

  3.  @scepticAL4322  Norman Tebbit was a leading cabinet member and Maggie's ally. Both he and Maggie always wanted that Tebbit should become Home Secretary and sort out immigration. They both knew this would trigger a revolt on the Tory back benches. It was always necessary to keep some wets in the cabinet to mollify the wets. It couldn't be done, hence where we are today.
