Comments by "Ray Purchase" (@raypurchase801) on "How Britain held over 50,000 Jews in concentration camps during the 1940s" video.
Some did indeed go into British camps during WW2. Others went into the armed services. The RAF had specialist German speakers, flying in RAF 100 Group as an eighth crew member on Lancasters. They monitored German radio communications, and issued misleading instructions to enemy night fighters.

A little off-subject I know, but Ken Adam (the movie set designer for the Bond movies) was a German J** who arrived in Scotland as a refugee before WW2. He joined the RAF where he became a skilled Typhoon pilot who specialised in tank-busting. I write "J**" 'cos somebody FALSELY reported one of my comments a while ago, and I suspect writing the whole word will get my comment cancelled.

The meaning of the term "concentration camp" can be misleading.

All true. Others were used in British intelligence because of their German language skills. Some served in the RAF's 100 Group, flying in Lancasters as an eighth crew member, speaking fluent German and giving misleading instructions to German night fighters.

@jimmycampbell78 YOUR comment remains visible, but mine might not have been.

@stevenwortrich6014 The term was used by the US and the Spanish in different wars, and by the British in the Boer War. The Nazi meaning of the word has taken on a different meaning.

@ef2718 And you too, sir / madam, are correct. But it's a good tale. I've left a different comment about German-born Ken Adam, the designer of the Bond movie sets. He became an RAF Typhoon pilot, and was nicknamed "Heini the Tank Buster".
