Petrol won't be banned. New petrol-only cars will be banned but you'll still be able to buy hybrids. You'll still be able to drive petrol cars sold before 2030. I will still be able to drive my 1958 Austin.

@HistoryDebunkedsimonwebb Agreed, that's the threat. Plus there will be a huge hole in the government's finances. The Exchequer raises vast amounts from sales of petrol and diesel, which it can't re-apply to domestic electricity. The money needs to come from somewhere. My '58 Austin is tax-exempt and doesn't even require an MOT, although I'm still required to keep it roadworthy. So-called "historic" cars tend to cover only a tiny annual mileage, so their impact on planet Earth's atmosphere is miniscule.

@johnforeman6620 There will be fewer petrol stations.

@johnforeman6620 I listened to the budget speech live when the tax-exempt status was introduced many years ago. The announcement was cheered by MPs as it was made. The BBC commentator said, "This measure is receiving widespread approval. A high proportion of MPs own classic cars".
