  1. @A.b.s Harold Wilson promise to hold a referendum won him the 1974 general election. Labour gave the impression of being anti-Common market without being so. Maggie's Tories wanted to remain in Europe whilst being anti-federalist. Neil Kinnock's Labour vacillated between anti- and pro- EEC. Same right up to the Corbyn era. Corbyn was steadfastly anti-EU during his entire career, but became a Remainer in time for the Brexit vote.
