  1. The British succeeded in places like India and north America, partly because we respected the locals and did business deals with them. Agree terms for a trading port. Everybody prospers, everybody wins. Some other powers preferred subjugation.

  4. It's unfair to blame smallpox on the Spanish arrival. Europeans didn't understand disease any more than the Aztecs did. It's not as if the Spanish said, "Let's put a smallpox-contaminated sailor on our ship, infecting the entire crew and then spreading the disease to the Aztecs".

  6.  @testudohorsfieldii7052  Slavery, empire and conquest were like the sun and the rain. They were naturally occurring. EVERYBODY did it. The north American tribes fought each other, carried out their own pogroms and took slaves CENTURIES before the first Europeans arrived. Don't go blaming Whitey just because they did it better.
