  1. Every time the British left a colony, we put in place a democratic constitution, a legal code, a free press, a viable economy and a line of credit. New countries which accepted our advice have prospered. Countries which reverted to their own cultural values are shit-holes. I think we did a good job.

  2. Read Kipling's "Chant Pagan", a poem in the style of a simple man speaking. He's an ex-soldier, who's sick and tired of the starched formality and classism of British life. He'd prefer to go a work for a Boer, his former enemy.

  7.  @lazlow9640  Difficult to compare like with like. India and Pakistan separated and fought a vicious war of ethnic cleansing. Plus these events were shortly after WW2, when everything got f*cked to hell. India utilised the best parts of its British heritage, it's the world's biggest democracy, Pakistan reverted to its own indigenous culture and it is an appalling sh*t hole.

  8.  @Rev-sq5hw  Slavery existed across the entire globe for the first thousands of years of human history. It existed in pre-Columbian south America, China, India and Africa before the Brits were themselves colonised and enslaved by the Romans. The white race became the first race in history to prohibit slavery. The biggest single factor in the destruction of slavery was the British Royal Navy. Do a quick Google search. Some estimates put the number of slaves in Africa TODAY as greater than the entire number of black slaves shipped to the Americas by the Brits, Spanish, Portugese, Dutch, French and everybody else.
