Imagine how depressing this was for anti-Nazis in Germany, the anti-Hitler generals who hoped to avoid war and the oppressed minorities who'd hoped for Germany to be internationally ostracised. What happened next?

  2. There are ten thousand other issues which deserve equivalent salutes. There could be protests about Northern Ireland, Israel, Palestine, the Sudan, Kashmir, the former Yugoslavia and the grooming gangs. There are SO MANY issues, the ONLY correct decision at sporting events is to have NO protests or salutes or symbolic gestures of ANY kind. Sport is about sport. Everything else should foxtrot oscar.

  4.  @Rampart.X  The Anschluss (annexation of Austria), the occupation of the Sudetenland and then the invasion of Czechoslovakia. Followed by WW2. Many persons who opposed Hitler gave up hope when they saw the England team endorsing Nazism.
