  1. A rear gunner during the BoB? Unlikely, unless he was in the Luftwaffe. RAF bomber crews didn't fight in the actual battle itself. Although plenty of bombers raided the Channel ports. EDIT - Perhaps he served in a B&P Defiant. Thank God he survived. Most didn't.

  2.  @BryanJohnson4891  Correct. The Boulton & Paul Defiant. The rear turret could only be opened from the outside. An insane design. I've edited my earlier comment accordingly.
