@chaptermasterpedrokantor1623 Nice to see that you too know your stuff.

Britain put its strength into the Royal navy, not the Army. Armies were seen as the tools of tyrants, both on the continent and from the time of Cromwell. Control the seas and you control the world. The war started very badly and suddenly came right.

D-Day in Europe was impossible in '42 and '43. PLUTO (pipeline under the ocean) hadn't been made, the Mulberry harbours were still on the drawing board, the Operation Fortitude North and Bodyguard deceptions had barely started. The Reich railway system was intact. The Germans could've moved divisions from east to west in a couple of weeks. The Luftwaffe remained potent and the Merlin-engined P47 wasn't yet in service. No invasion was possible until the U-boats in the Atlantic had been subdued. Or perhaps you've never heard of the raid on Dieppe.

@chaptermasterpedrokantor1623 Sorry, I'm still enraged after watching a TV documentary which made out that Churchill was wrong-wrong-wrong and we should've done D-Day in '42 or '43. I assumed you were spouting the same stuff.

My favourite war. When Georgian Britain attained dominance.
