Ehh, a Banana Republic is a state or failed state rather, that's fully Capitalist and run by a rich elite giving the top jobs to one another including setting the rules to their favour aka a Cleptocracy ruled by Nepotism. The left as you put it, appose any such notion and have done everything in their power to block that from a Social Democratic standpoint. The middle and right aka the Corporate Democrats and the Republican's including Trump have gone out of their way to achieve a Banana Republic in the USA.
