  1. Vietnam was always more globally orientated because of its many interactions with other Asian nations and European's. For hundreds of years they traded with mostly Dutch and Portuguese traders, and had regular contact with the Dutch colonies Indonesia and Timor. Later the French invaded and colonised Vietnam bring their culture, food and language with them, these all influenced Vietnam further. Than the Americans came and the Vietnam war began, during and after Chinese tried to draw Vietnam to them. But Vietnam was very internationally orientated and that never went away.
