@chrisedward7575 I can feel your visceral pain about the folly of war. I agree with you that maintaining small "peacekeeping" forces or permanent bases in certain regions is a good idea. It seems to have worked in Germany, probably Korea too. But I don't know why you feel the need to blame only Democrats. Luckily war is almost always such a mess that there is plenty of blame to go around. Clearly both Democrats and Republicans own Vietnam, both Democrats and Republicans own Afghanistan. @chrisedward7575 Hard to paint Biden with all of Afghanistan, he's been in office for 7 months. And he has probably used some of that time trying to figure out what to do with Trump's surrender agreement. Oh plus solving covid so... That's killing 600000+Americans so more than Viet nam... If we give Obama the blame we also have to give him credit for Osama bin laden so... So maybe it's not about blaming Democrats. Maybe it's about realizing that we get into the mess together, so maybe we should get out of it together. I don't think our soldiers deserve less. Right now it's about saving as many girls and women and allies as possible.

@chrisedward7575 I feel your anger but it might be clouding your perspective. Trump never should have signed a surrender agreement with Taliban. This is not a group that negotiates honorably, they are zealots. Now we have to focus on girls and women and allies. Don't let your anger confuse you about what is important.

@chrisedward7575 You cannot possibly believe this. So all of those video clips of trump taking credit for this agreement? Pompeo's photo ops with Taliban leaders? Trump clearly is embarrassed by his withdrawal/surrender agreement NOW, that's why he scrubbed it from his website. I hope you can find a less angry space to reconsider the historical lessons of war. I trust that you can find the humanity to volunteer with refugee resettlement in your town, and veteran return support systems (housing retrofitting, job training, peer counseling, etc). There is much work to do that can help you to find a better context for your anger. I wish you all the best as you move forward.

@chrisedward7575 Wow. Luckily I am an American and I do know our constitution and I have studied history, so I know that it is important to disagree with comments like this one. Beyond that, I hope you can find peace in your own life and move forward.

@Damremont18 but democracy worked there, at least a little bit. Because last year we voted the potential dictator out! Not perfect at all, but democracy works a little bit. Now we have to find a way to help as many afghan girls and women as possible. Not going to be easy, might have been nice if ghani had helped, might have been nice if Trump hadn't authored the surrender agreement. But maybe we can still try our best to get something more done. Our soldiers still believe in us, immigrants who come here still believe in us, veterans still believe in us. Let's keep on praying and trying, it's not over yet and we can still keep on filling planes, and every additional girl we save will be a great victory. And one day those afghan women will be the true warriors who will save their homeland from corruption and ignorance and brutality. One more plane, then another and another and another.
