  8.  @TheCaniblcat  Find it very hard to believe that this Halal guy was displaying anything on his food cart except the prices for his Halal. His cart seems to be positioned about four blocks from one of the largest synagogues in a very Jewish neighborhood (although there really is no 100% anything neighborhood in NYC. Thank goodness.) Also, a group of neighbors was filmed on another news platform positioning a folding table near his cart to demonstrate solidarity for him. He clearly has faithful customers in the neighborhood. This guy is a jerk who thinks hate speech is okay. He did this repeatedly on several days; observe his change of clothes in the various videos. Thank you NYPD for arresting this guy. The Halal guy was super patient and super smart not to allow this jerk to trigger him into a direct response. Lots of self control not to put his hands on this old fool. Hate speech is a crime. 🗽

  14. It would be quite interesting to see more information about the "unresolved" hazing investigation that the university admits this young man filed. What if this historic university had an effective process for truly ending hazing practices on their grounds? Please remember that hazing practices in colleges can be quite severe and have resulted in deaths in the past. That might lead to a young man feeling that he had to protect his own safety if the university was not taking that role seriously. It feels like this tragedy might have been prevented.

  17. In so many ways, this speaks to the essential need to improve our public school system nationwide. Anyone with a basic understanding of civics, critical thinking, propaganda techniques, and most of all history would not fall for this grifter. Some states are underfunding their public schools,, and now it's starting to look deliberate. It's an easy way to create a pool of uneducated voters for red candidates and demagogues who like that. There's a reason that DeSantis is attacking the history curriculum and banning books.

  28. Mobile homes/manufactured homes are not "affordable housing"; they are dangerous housing, especially in a state with Florida's weather challenges. Additionally the owners of those trailer parks have some predatory rental practices, since the trailer owner doesn't own the land that they are parked on. There are responsible ways to construct real affordable multiple dwellings that can comply with safe building codes. Likely a private/public partnership might be needed. Time for Florida government to actually govern and play a role in the safety of their challenged state.

  34. Mental health assessment before every purchase, age limits, mandatory gun safes, training, permits, registration, comprehensive background checks with waiting periods. That's a start. For instance, if training is required, a professional trainer could likely spot concerning behaviors during the training session and share their concerns in a database or with law enforcement. If a trainer has to sign off before a purchase is complete, that could add another set of professional eyes on the problem. This troubled person was able to purchase seven weapons legally from five vendors. And none of those vendors thought to ask some questions? And there's no tracking system in Tennessee to realize that is going on? No red flag laws in Tennessee, so no way to know that she had an emotional disturbance. Guns are extremely dangerous things, they should be difficult to obtain. Comprehensive federal gun safety legislation is needed; the patchwork of state laws is not working.

  37. The housing industry is out of control. Housing is not just any other product. Housing prices everywhere in the nation are beyond the reach of more and more working people. It's a homelessness problem, yes, but it is primarily a housing problem. This is a market that requires regulations and oversight. If you are selling handbags, hey, charge what you want. But overcharges in housing create a cost paid by the entire nation.

If you worked at McDonald's for minimum wage, you know you would demand that they pay you your last check when you quit, right? So what would a "field hand" be paid in 1864? Now, multiply that by a lifetime for their work. So a ridiculously low annual wage, multiplied by 60 or 70. The lifespan can be determined by census records and genelogical studies. Honestly, even if you didn't add interest and punitive damages for the cruel physical punishment visited upon those enslaved workers, those lost wages are a sum of money that no one can dispute. In a country as wealthy as ours, an apology without a monetary award is hollow and insulting.

  48. Late term pregnancy emergencies do happen unfortunately. Miscarriage, still birth, emergency c-section, etc. When things like that happen, an abortion is often necessary. Now, some doctors have been timid about providing that care, and trying to wait until the woman is almost dying. Recently the attorney general made an announcement on this, reminding states that accept Medicare or Medicaid Federal funds that they cannot deny emergency care. I heard that one woman was hemorrhaging and on respiratory support before they gave her care.

Walk down the block and up First Avenue to the United Nations and let's get the diplomacy started ASAP. Start over with new prime ministers on all sides. People who know diplomacy, construction, engineering and healthcare. Rebuild homes, rebuild hospitals, rebuild water systems, rebuild schools. Hug the children and assure them that things will be better now.
