  1. I believe Florida has a red flag law, but it depends on how it was applied. Did the family contact law enforcement to flag his behavior? Was the background check complete enough to capture the information? Waiting periods are needed so that purchasers can be fully vetted before the weapons walk out the door. Right now, it seems that they are using a form where people check off various boxes and answer certain questions, then sign a declaration that they understand it's a crime if they were not truthful on the form. But it doesn't seem that there are independent procedures to verify the information before the weapons walk out the door. Pocedures also vary widely state to state. Some of the many reasons that comprehensive federal gun safety legislation is needed. State gun laws are just not working, and gun traffickers simply drive illegal guns across state lines straight into the hands of criminals.
