  1. Absolutely, we need better instruction in civics and history. However, certain states seem to want inaccurate history curriculum and might not mind underfunded public schools. Undereducated citizens are perhaps less likely to exercise critical thinking, to engage, to vote actively, to protest gerrymandering, to resist book bans. Undereducated residents who are dependent upon low wage jobs might be seen as a positive to some business interests. I'm not sure that state by state education standards truly benefit the nation.
