Refugees and asylum seekers are not undocumented migrants or "border jumpers". Refugees are protected by international law and USA laws.

Wow, suspended Jewish Voices for Peace? Wow. Especially given the role the Columbia campus played during the anti war movement against Vietnam... Wow.

Border states receive federal funds for immigration services. Return the monies to the feds if you can't do the job.

This type of owl is not native to NYS. Eurasian owl.

Actually there is a NYC bus that stops directly in front of Icahn stadium and connects to 125th street in minutes. I think you don't know very much about NYC? However, valuable to know that border states receive federal funds to assist with immigration services. If Abbott can't do the job, he needs to return the funds to the feds so they can be redirected to NYC. Thanks.

Let him be remembered through Flaco's law? How hard can it be to add decals to windows?? Totally worth it. Rest in Power Flaco. 🦉🗽🦉

Refugees and asylum seekers are not undocumented migrants. USA law and international law protects refugees. Thanks.

How about Congress passing immigration legislation that is decades overdue? Democrats pass legislation, even big intractable problems like infrastructure. Republicans clown for C-SPAN. Choose wisely when you vote. 🌊💙🌊🗽🌎

Yes! What to do when you are fatigued. So important to prevent panic!

Orchard Beach forever!!

Obviously you know nothing about NYC. Do you even know where Randall's Island is? How it is used? Thanks, you gave me a really good laugh. I needed that.
1
Fairly certain you are referring to Roosevelt Island. Randall's Island contains a homeless shelter, a sports stadium, and several sports fields. Maybe they are permanent residents of the psychiatric facility? I'm guessing you are not in close touch with your relatives?

I agree. Truly affordable housing is key for everyone. Unfortunately, the real estate industry is the primary underwriter for virtually every political campaign in NYC. What if the city council could vote on campaign reform and affordable housing in the same session so that essential link can be made crystal clear. Right now, affordable housing is all about these tangles of zoning requirements and ULURP proceedings and complex applications for a few apts in a wealthy coop building. Enough. Lower the rent. Unlock the warehoused apts. Enough!

On another news platform, a friend from his time in foster care spoke up for him. Mr. Neely lost his mother to a murder when he was a young teenager approx age 13. It does seem that this young man survived the loss of his mother, survived the foster care system, struggled with understandable sadness and depression, and for a time chose to channel his immeasurable sadness and grief into performance and dance. Wow. What a tragedy. When did we become a society that thinks it's okay for a 13 year old to struggle in this way? We know we can do better. Shame on all of us. This is a human tragedy on so many levels. A young marine veteran is probably struggling with a bunch of stuff too. Why was killing someone the way to go here? A total tragedy, but not necessarily a tragic "accident". New York City is better than this. We need to reassess right and wrong here, and commit to doing better.

The problem with NYC these days is there are too many people here who were not raised here and just don't get it. Too many tourists, too many suburbanites. Your brain is your first crime prevention tool, ask any cop about that. Use it. If a person is yelling at you, no eye contact and ignore. You move to another car. The two big guys who were scuffling with him on the floor, they would have felt if he had a weapon. If he does not have a weapon, what threat does this hungry dehydrated man present to a Marine veteran? The passengers who chose to kill him could have instead restrained him and dumped him off the train at the next stop. The F train is a local train that pulls into a new station every few minutes. Did anyone contact the conductor? Did someone have a snack in their bag to offer the man to distract him and potentially calm him down? That's just the short list. Any real subway rider has seen these strategies work during their commutes. Filming someone getting choked on their phone, that seems to be the strategy that this group of passengers went for. Wow. Well, at least they have something for their Instagram story. Just shameful.

UrbCrafter: I am confident that this Marine veteran took an oath to uphold the Constitution, not an oath to kill a mentally ill individual in the middle of an episode. I am confident that this Marine was instructed carefully to understand the lethal power of the restraint strategy he applied incorrectly to this gentleman. This gentleman was an American citizen who needed support, and many elements of his society failed him from the age of at least 13. This gentleman was not this Marine's enemy. But now he gets to explain his behavior to a jury.

cazmaniandevil: Of course, because a middle school response is what the pain and grief of this terrible tragedy requires. Let me know what your pastor thinks about the situation. Maybe your anger management counselor has an opinion? Just really confident that you don't ride my subways, so...enjoy.

@dorisbove2210 I'm glad to know that you got the counseling that you needed to process your tragedy. I'm guessing that some of your extended family stepped in to provide support when you needed it? I'm glad that your mother was only abused, but not murdered, I guess? I'm not sure what kind of trauma competition this is here, but.... Perhaps your state has an amazing and nurturing foster care system that was a positive experience for you? I hope that you have not simply buried your trauma under denial, because unfortunately studies show that children who experience abuse often grow up to become abusers themselves. I hope that you have a positive ongoing relationship with a trained counselor. Going it alone on trauma can often have unfortunate consequences at unplanned moments in life. I wish you the best. I'm glad to know that you are a super woman who doesn't need any help with healing. I hope you will continue to be the caring life affirming person you are, sharing your kindness with all of your friends and neighbors. Amazing!

UrbCrafter: Can't help you with the legal knowledge you need to disentangle some of this word salad. I just would love to be a fly on the wall when you try to explain to a law professor that a mentally ill individual in the middle of an episode is a domestic terrorist. What amendment covers the justified execution of a mentally ill person by any random citizen who chooses to choke him from behind because he was yelling? Maybe a constitutional law class in a community college would be edifying? Enjoy the acquisition of new learning.
1
UrbCrafter: "...and even in some cases ..." This is not one of those cases. This Marine was not a good Samaritan because he was protecting no one from a physical assault that did not happen. He was the one who assaulted the mentally ill individual. Understand? NYers hear scary words all the time. Most of them should be ignored. Most NYers choose to deescalate. Most NYers would have moved to another car. This Marine from Long Island did not. Beyond unfortunate. He will have to explain it to a judge and jury. You cannot dismiss his case.

They should post signs for swim lessons right next to the warning signs. Asphalt Green had a program they called "water proofing" that worked with public schools to provide swim lessons as part of the physical education program. Plus free swim lessons at NYC parks and recreation public pools during the summer. These programs should be available more widely, especially in some of these Queens neighborhoods where this is a yearly problem.

Refugees and asylum seekers are protected by USA law and international law. The USA is not a rogue nation. However, Abbott clearly does not know how to process migrants, even refugees who basically get on line so they can surrender to border guards. Hmm... Maybe Abbott is not a good fit as the governor of a large state like Texas? Vote Abbott out, gun safety, reproductive healthcare, public education, border management, Vote Abbott out 🌊💙🌊🗽
1
Abbott is trying to redirect the conversation because of his failing bid for reelection as governor. Vote Abbott out. 💙

The largest protest was sponsored by Jewish Voices for Peace. Please pay attention.

The rat population exploded during the pandemic. This is a huge problem. If you don't know that, you don't live here.

You may want to have a more complete chat with your grandfather. You sure you want to say that immigrants from Italy had no access to public schools in NYC and USA? Entire class photos prove otherwise. Settlement house programs? Public hospitals? City College? No such thing as people entering legally with no paperwork. No ability to work without a work permit and a parole of some type. Immigration is a complex issue, but mythology makes it much worse. Also, today's immigrants work and pay taxes too. In fact, immigration has decreased in the past several years, and our worker shortage problem is a direct result of that decrease. Hatred of immigrants helps no one.

No knowledge of the dangers of pest and vermin control. Sad

Sometimes these stores attract a different type of customer. More edgy, more volatile. Just saying... They're not always looking to buy milk or potato chips. A smoke shop is not a "bodega" as such, although some will sell sodas and some snacks.
1
Exactly. No affordable housing for most; two and three extra homes for owners who don't monitor their properties and don't realize that a stranger moved in 30 days ago. Hmm ...

@waynewayne9693 Thank you for your well considered words. Buffalo is better than that little boy. Honor the lives lost, because they all seemed to be joyous family people. Love the family they left behind. 💚 Forget him, he's gone. His only job now is to make prison a better place. Let's see how he does. Buffalo moves on with love and grace. 🗽💚🗽
