"The Schrodinger equation is self-similar" begins to laugh in Fibonacci

@Nosttromo Empiricism, phenomenology, and epistemology aren't 3rd grade philosophies, my guy.
11
I sometimes forget that I'm a nerd at heart and then someone mentions Godel, Turing, and Conway and I'm like "Them's mah bois"
10
ngl, they do put out alot of useless hot air in school. maybe it's not so bad.
10
It's that Twilight Zone where the guy is finally able to read in peace but his glasses break.
10
@deltablaze77 Isn't that what they believe, tho? Doesn't the pizza just fly through space propelled by dark energy or whatever flavor-of-the-month untestable excuse they can come up with?
9
@Avaruusmurkku Watching the poo swirl the toilet bowl sure that it was never moving of its own accord but that the world was the one cruelly separating them.
9
@cetomedo The number in any iteration is irrelevant. It's the quality * quantity. That's why mothers eat their young, why food stores and stress levels change in uteuro sex, and why we have a debate of prolife/choice. We could pump out humans until we prove Malthus right or we could grow in a sustainable way by making each human more cost efficient and better for the environment that supports it.

Man, I'm just not convinced about that last bit. It sounds like an attempt at refutation of hard determinism but I'm still convinced that we are in a superposition and that the universe still follows laws. Sure, they might be probabilistic but there's gotta be something there that can go from A to B in a reasonable way.
6
@Maiahi The future is the present. You'll never achieve anything playing on whim. Without intentional play, you'll just spin your wheels.

It fluctuates in size 100 times per second.

@markgohl2660 I trust math more than anything. I've been in a dark, unfamiliar room and I've taken acid; I know how fallible 'actual reality' is.
3
@TheBrass18 "can't prove them" I don't suppose you've heard of the hard sciences (physics, chemistry, biology, economics, etc) , the things that constantly prove math right?
3
String theorists: first time?
3
Base-rate fallacy. Assume that your universe is about the mean of universes.
3
I am disappointed that I am the first person to mention Nietzsche.

I love game theory and have been studying it on and off over the years while trying to get my applied math degree. I wish it got as much shine as topics like topology, graph theory, and category theory because it's an idea that's directly able to affect the world in a positive way. It's really actionable by normal people.
2
@saigaihikigane6150 What is with this response?
2
@faaizrosli I'm not your dad and I can't run your life for you, but you cannot go through life being so egalitarian. If we had infinite time and energy, we could lift every idiot out of the gutter. But we don't. You need to pick your battles and sometimes that means letting the glue-eater eat glue.
2
If it's counterintuitive or hard to understand, FE will latch onto it for dear life.
2
@MaxLohMusic What a paradoxical thing. You expect him to learn to read by reading the thing he can't read.
2
Kahneman has a new book? I'm so on this. TF/TS is one of the best books of all time.
2
I just had the most intense vertigo from that thumbnail. It's still messing me up as I'm writing this.
2
Hey past me. I, too... hol up... yeah. Me too
2
In theory. If it were practically easy, you could take your little planck length and measure it in an afternoon.
1
@TheBrass18 Did you just say to measure my country in metric? G e t t h i s m a n o u t t a m y s i g h t

Found the philosopher/lawyer.
1
Jarhead by bowl of oatmeal, you mean bowl of eggwhites, right?
1
@archockencanto1645 Look at how they massacred my boy.
1
@HiloFarmersMarket This isn't carpentry. We have no need of plancks here.
1
@David-ud9ju Math is a subset of science.
1
Well, if it isn't the consequences of my actions.
1
-when in reality- get that weak sauce outta here boi
1
[ Nevaeh disliked that. ]
1
I'd probably do it. Especially if iterated and I win the first flip.
1
This makes me yearn for a parallel timeline where all scientists argue on Youtube and tons of people are legitimately interested in finding out the truth of how the world works.
1
Haven't watched the video yet but I'm guessing it's belief bias. Could be confirmation bias, but I'm sticking to my gut. EDIT: rip me. I'm guessing the rule is ascending numbers DOUBLE EDIT: Gottem bois

Stoked for S6 Weather Report is bae

Ya'll know this is just 'Mandelbrot' and Fibonacci, right? Anything recusively defined is formulated like this.

8:44 So.. GANNs?
1
I hate how damn cool this is.
1
@nathanwoodruff9422 did you just compare the speed of pushing someone in an office chair to the speed of light? wtf reality am I living in?
1
Imagine how hot you could get a quantum computer if you wrote all your AI in functional languages.

I still have the same Note8 that I had in 2017. No battery problems, no screen problems, still runs about as fast as the newer Notes without the animation redux. Why would I buy a new phone? I'm actually really glad Samsung didn't gimp my phone to 'sell me more phones'. It engenders my trust that they're not gonna screw me and I'll give them my business when this one finally does give out. The short-sightedness of businesses is sometimes amazing, especially when they have you hooked on their product. They don't think about repeat business and doing right by their consumers; it's about impressing shareholders at the next meeting. It's not sustainable and it'll come to an end soon enough.

False. You cannot draw to the detail level required.

It's the same thing as a mobius strip in 3d and a klein bottle in 4d
1
why the heck isn't 'Ancient Aliens' not the top voted comment on this. I feel like I've been let down.
1
Didn't use BT's "Antikythera Mechanism" for BGM. Shame.
1
This stinks of topology to me. Tell me, in capitalist America, is it true that everyone considers a donut to be a coffee mug?
