Socialism can work but the primary premises under which it can be undertaken and succeeded at haven't even remotely been met. It has failed and will always fail until financial transactability is lightning fast, logistics in super reliable, people are not only very intelligent but ambitious, persistent, and conscientious, and that people are hyper-participatory in government. And, even at that point, would it really be any better than capitalism with those same things? No, probably not. Capitalism is an evolutionarily stable strategy for a reason.

I agree and disagree. I agree with the first part. I think the argument from Kairos is a good one, though, but can be addressed through a individualistic lens; the matter is pressing and needs immediate action which means you should set about substantial personal change rapidly so that it manifests in the structures around you to get the ball rolling sooner. As for climate science, I was a skeptic and had never done my research. So I went and read Hansen, 1988 and saw the projections and concensus on the issue and the statistics check out. Faced with that, I had to switch to the other side. What I'm trying to say is that you, as the individual who is increasingly rational, bear the burden of critical thinking on tough issues and, if you believe in social good (or the good of humanity), you should have level-headed arguments about the pressing issues of the day. Teach it out and be taught and know when you're wrong and when you're right and be willing to change or stand your ground reasonably.
