  1. This is something I think about alot. We have skills, ideas, and crafts that are disappearing all the time and we are replacing them with substandard things because it's convienient. If it continues, we'll all be the same substandard people. It's good to see that people are keeping traditions and distinctions alive.

  7. Comparatively, I had much more difficulty with Mandarin. Having a backwards syntax is nothing compared to tonal character. I'm an emotive speaker so when I start getting excited, the words start changing meaning. Not with Japanese (mostly). Kanji is great, too. Learning what radicals make up a word and how words combine to make other words is so much fun. Plus, there's alot of potential double meanings similar to English metaphor/simile. Its way more colorful to me.
