They are getting a hiding. By delaying it, there is more time for Starmer to blunder, leading to an unstable coalition. Long term, the best outcome for the Tories would be Labour + Lib Dems, wherein the Tories get full view as the opposition. Therefore, the Tory objective now is to give Starmer time to implode.
