If the Socialist side won the Spanish civil War, there would have been faction fights with the element backed by Stalin coming out the winners. Purely due to resources. I think that would have terrified the British and in particular the French. That might have caused them both to turn a blind eye to the invasion if Poland, so as to let Hitler and Stalin have their full scale war. The result would have been the same in the end, due to the scale of the USSR and Hitler's illusions of his own competence. Spain would have spent the Cold War as a Soviet satelitte, and would have been as poor as Bulgaria or Romania in 1990. There would have been an iron curtain across the Pyrenees, and a permanent British and later American presence in Portugal.

Many Americans here comparing their society with various historical occurrences. But nobody is honest about the leadership crisis at the top. There us a similarity between Biden and Constaintin Chernenko in terms if alertness. The levers of power are applied by others behind the scenes. The results are not Democratic. And they are not in the interests of the America people Trump is the Bill Barnum of politics, a superb showman. The whole thing was a circus. A funny circus unlike the hypocrisy loaded circus of the Obama years. America requires much, much better. I do not see better coming down the tracks in 2024.

@gabrieldelfronton2584 in Ireland there was a war in the 1920s. The British supplied weapons and intelligence to the winners. Interestingly, in the 1930s after both sides had stopped fighting, in Ireland, both sides sent volunteers to the Spanish civil war. This caused Ireland's civil war to reopen in argumentative manner. The politicians realised in 1938 that they both needed to calm matters down. Otherwise the country would be occupied again. In the 1970s another Irish civil war started in Ulster. And again one if the sides had connections with Spain - with the terrorist group ETA. One side was supplied by weaponry from the East Bloc, the other by covert operatives in NATO. Be careful what you ask for concerning reopening wounds if the past. You might end up with a country that is overruled by people outside who seek exploit it. All the external actors in the Spanish civil war thought they could turn Spain into a proxy state. In the end they all failed. You are fortunate about that. That was a rare occurrence in the 20th century. And be reconciling to all of your fellow Spaniards, ( including those who are firstly Catalans, Basques, etc). That makes far more sense than trying a reply of past disasters.

@JustRememberWhoYoureWorkingFor I think Puerto Rico has an independence movement. Given the sheer steadily increading incompetence in Washington since the killing of JFK, this might be a good idea.
