This would nueter German independence in the medium term, and turn German into a proxy for Washington within the EU. The Eastern lander in Germany in particular are extremely sceptical of the Washington consensus on how to run the world. Therefore Blinken's every move is to appear respectful of the Germans BEFORE the Federal elections, so as to not cause the Greens to lose votes. Blinken is hiding his aggression, so as to ensure that next German government, will be weak, pliable, Russo-phobic, salvo-phobic, and aligned to Biden. That is Blinken's goal - more control over the EU, and use the Greens in Germany to hold power in a fist, before sovereigntists in the Latin countries decentralise the EU. That is Blinken's strategy. Germany has controlled the EU in Germany's interest and it is infuriating to Washington. Washington wants to control the EU to serve the needs of Washington.
