  1. Conscription. In 1917, the UK government decided to implement conscription in Ireland. It was rejected. The Irish did not believe the war time media coverage. In particular the Roman Catholic Church, decided that it was not acceptable. Smuggled Spanish newspapers were telling both sides of the conflict, at a time when most clergy understood Latin. Returned Irish Americans were against taking part, for the kings shilling. The conscription drive, led by aristocrats, generated more visible and widespread opposition to Westminster than the 1916 Easter Rebellion event. The Irish peasantry rejected Westminster, en masse. The English and Welsh are close to the same point as the Irish in 1917. Scotland and NI are not there yet. This will push people to the edge, and will cause massive opposition. People will turn against the entire system.
