  1. Actually, there is early 1700s feel to this....The War of Jenkins Ear, a ridiculous war with Spain won in a manner that was expensive and embarrassing. So embarrassing the aristocracy did not start another war for decades. There were clowns in charge, and that was quickly revealed. Maybe I am understating matters. France did not need to blow it's finances in the War of Ausyrian Succession or the American War of Independence.
